Mental health and poetry
Everywhere on this beautiful earth, exists someone who goes through periods of difficulty or mental health issues. Let’s normalize this part of our lives. We are humans. Sometimes it’s overwhelming to explore by yourself what is in there. And sometimes we need help. Help from a friend, a family member or a therapist. All kinds of helps are needed and welcomed.
It’s hard to ask for help and expose ourselves in front of others when we don’t feel comfortable with what happened. But sometimes we really need to do that. Believe me, asking for help or being able to say that “I’m not feeling so well”, is actually a sign of bravery and courage.
Humans needs real stories
I work in the field of mental health since 2018, almost 7 years. I. witnessed how a human can feel alive again in the middle of a therapeutic process. I am here with them, helping to understand their experiences and helping them to love their life again.
But, like them, I had my personal therapeutic journey. Because if we, the therapists, are not emotionally stable, how we can be there for them? It’s a huge responsibility.
Between work sessions with my clients and therapeutic sessions with my own therapist, I started to write and read poetry, because art ( any kind of art) is so therapeutic and helps me to be more aware about the present moment and actually expressing my thoughts and emotions through words, helped a lot. In the same time, I read poetry, I actually love to read poems. Reading is art. Writing is art. Existing is art. You are a piece of art.
A poem is a good friend and a great teacher, can give us a lot of emotional support and confidence about life, our life. Is like reading about the life of the author but in the same time living yours.
Protect yourself and remember that your wellbeing is always the most important part of your life. And if you have near you a book with poems, please read one. Or maybe you can write some lines.
